Context and Inspiration
“Ti Saozon” is a work produced in 2022. This painting captures the view of the Ti Saozon islet in the channel between Roscoff and the island of Batz, east of the island of Batz. I take inspiration from the seascapes and tides of the region to create a calming and contemplative scene.
Visual Description
The painting presents a minimalist, monochrome view of Ti Saozon islet at low tide, with seaweed visible on the shore. The black and white hues used in the composition accentuate the contrast between the land, sea and sky, creating a serene and graphic atmosphere. The island and horizon are rendered with precise knife strokes, adding texture and depth to the work.
Painting Techniques and Materials
I use the knife painting technique to apply acrylic to canvas, creating rich, distinct textures. The sharp contrasts between black and white add a graphic dimension to the composition, while the details of the seaweed and low tides add a touch of realism.
Thematic Analysis
“Ti Saozon” explores themes of nature, tranquility and coastal beauty. The low tide scene with the seaweed evokes natural cycles and the peaceful simplicity of seascapes. The composition invites the viewer to lose themselves in the sober and timeless beauty of the Breton coast.
