Context and Inspiration
“Button Tree” is a work created in 2024. This work is part of a series that explores creativity and originality through the stylized representation of trees. Inspired by the surrounding nature of the island of Batz and everyday objects, I use various materials to give life to a unique and poetic tree.
Visual Description
The painting represents a stylized tree, whose trunk and branches are painted in acrylic, while the branches and leaves are formed from metal buttons in the shape of small flowers. This combination of natural and manufactured elements creates a playful and aesthetic work.
The bottom and trunk of the tree are painted with a warm color palette including red, orange and burnt sienna. These rich, earthy colors evoke the warmth and vitality of nature, bringing a warm and dynamic dimension to the work.
Painting Techniques and Materials
I use the knife painting technique to apply the acrylic to the canvas board, which gives a rich, structured texture to the surface of the painting. The metal buttons, shaped like small flowers, are carefully arranged to create the branches and leaves of the tree, adding a tactile and sculptural dimension to the work.
Thematic Analysis
“Button Tree” explores themes of growth, creativity and connection with nature. Using ordinary materials, such as metal buttons, transforms these familiar objects into an imaginative work of art. The tree becomes a symbol of transformation and artistic fertility, highlighting originality and inventiveness.
